When Karen Depp decided to bring her home décor business to Baton Rouge from Magazine Street in New Orleans, her first impulse was to move into a large shopping center.
“My New Orleans store was in a shotgun double and it just didn’t translate,” she declared. “Like Magazine Street, I wanted an area with a distinct identity and flavor. I decided Mid City was only place to be.”
With the area’s offering of art galleries and proximity to the Garden District, Karen believes Government Street has the potential to become pedestrian-friendly, similar to Magazine.
“New Orleans is a street city. Every Saturday feels like a party, where people know one another and come by to visit and share ideas. That’s the way the Garden District is like here.”
